American
Iron helps young entrepreneur
(American Metal Market Magazine, March 2001 issue)
New
York, March 2, 2001 --- American Iron and Metal Co. Inc., Montreal,
decided to take a chance on a brand-new supplier who offered such
corporate gifts as jackets, golf caddies and mahogany desk sets
- and the scrap company's purchases helped launch a successful venture.
Erica
Mintz, 25 year old daughter of Gary Mintz, one of the company's
executive scrap traders, used the initial order and her business
acumen acquired at McGill University to parlay an out-of-the-home
enterprise into a rapidly growing company of her own.
She
told a Montreal newspaper that her Unique Corporate Gifts had done
so well, particularly with Internet sales, that annual revenue stood
at $500,000 and showed promises of reaching $5 million to $10 million
a year. She has rented office space and opened a small showroom.
"I
like to think outside the box, come up with innovative ways to help
companies with promotional products," she said in the newspaper
interview.
Her
product orders are sent to several hundred suppliers, mostly in
Canada.
